Differences of spot meter settings when shooting with GoPro with Entaniya Fisheye 280°attached.
Depending on settings, picture quality can remarkably differ when shooting with GoPro (modified with GoPro kit) with Entaniya Fisheye 280° attach.

Basically, you shoot with GoPro using default settings without PT(Protune). If you have a good knowledge about setting PT, you are able to shoot in the best possible quality. However, as PT requires detailed setting, it’s recommended to turn PT off in case it’s not absolutely necessary in the situation.

Basic settings when using Entaniya 280 : Shooting mode.

In case of shooting 360° with only one camera: 2.7K(4 : 3).

In case of shooting 360° with only one camera: 2.7K(4 : 3).
When shooting upward or in any other way, if you want to shoot 360° VR footage with only one camera, you have to shoot by 2.7K(4 : 3) mode. Using this mode, the image will perfectly fit in the circle.

In case of shooting by Back to Back: 4K.

In case of shooting by Back to Back: 4K.
In case you are shooting by Back to Back with Entaniya Fisheye 280, you have to shoot by 4K mode.

It’s also possible to shoot by 2.7K(4 : 3) but the size of the resulting ec rectangular will eventually be about 3K. If shooting in 4K mode, the ec rectangular will be sized 4K.

Basic settings when using Entaniya 280 : Spot metering.

Difference between turning spot metering ON or OFF.

Turning the setting of spot metering either ON or OFF will result in difference in exposure.

In the sample footage below, it is more suitable to turn the spot metering ON but this is only the case in this situation. You need to change the setting according to the shooting situation.

spot on

spot off

Setting when outside.

In case it’s sunny, spot metering : ON

If you turn spot metering OFF, the footage taken will become too light and blown out highlights might appear in the sky. Therefore, the setting has to be turned ON when you are outside and it’s sunny.

In case it’s cloudy or rainy, spot metering : OFF

There is a possibility that some blown out highlights will appear in the sky even if it’s rainy or cloudy. However, if you turn spot metering ON, the scenery might appear too dark so it’s better to turn spot metering OFF to get best results.

Setting when inside.

n a bright room, spot metering : OFF

In case you are in a room with something like a fluorescent lamp turned on or there’s enough brightness for some other reason, the spot metering should be turned OFF to shoot. If it’s turned ON, the footage often becomes too dark.

In a dark room, spot metering : ON

If you are in a somewhat dark room, you can minimize the light coming from windows bursting and spoiling you footage by turning the spot metering ON.

*Shooting in dark places will basically not result in a good quality so shooting in bright places is recommended.
